Local runner Alex McCann has won the Northern Night Orienteering Championship on a wind and rain swept night on Caton Moor near Lancaster. Alex battled through swollen streams, rough and slippery ground, using a map and compass for navigation around the 5 km course. His time was good enough to win the 16 year old age class and also beat many more experienced runners.

This race was one of the North West Night League which Alex also won after another win at Haigh Hall on 22nd January, again beating all other runners and topping the league table.

The next objective is the National Night Orienteering Championship near Warwick.

Alex runs for Manchester & District Orienteering Club who have recently started a Get Fit Have Fun club night in Hazel Grove. This is ideal for newcomers wanting to learn a new sport that will get you out in the open air and is cheap!
