New Cycle Event launched: Tour of the Roaches Cyclo-Sportive

Get Peddling in the Peaks with New Cycle Event, “Tour of the Roaches”

The Tour of the Roaches Cyclo-Sportive is an exciting new cycle event which will see up to 500 people taking to their bikes on three picturesque routes around Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire countryside.

The cycle ride will take place on 29th May (May Bank Holiday weekend), and is aimed at anyone (over 16 years).  Entrants can choose to complete 35, 70 or 100 miles, so there is a challenge to suit all-comers.

Starting and finishing at Bowden Rugby Club in Trafford, Greater Manchester, all three routes offer a good mixture of Peak District beauty spots, pretty country lanes, and scenic destinations including Alderley Edge, Buxton spa town, Bakewell, and Wincle Village (depending on the route).  The longer routes will also pass by striking backdrops including the spectacular rock formations at The Roaches in Staffordshire, which offer 86-mile views over to Mount Snowdon, and which give the cyclo-sportive its name.

Race Director, Emma Warren of Xtra Mile Events, commented “The focus of the Tour of the Roaches Cyclo-Sportive is on encouraging people of all abilities to choose their own personal challenge, have fun and just do their personal best.  It is also an opportunity to showcase some of the best vistas and sites in the region.  Most importantly though, there will be plenty of Joe Halls famous pies, and cakes!”

The British Cycling-registered event also offers electronic chip timing, event photographs, bike mechanics, motorbike support riders, SAG wagon, a goody bag and free hot drink at the finish line in a finisher’s souvenir mug.

For an added incentive, cyclists are encouraged to do the event to fundraise for a charity, either one of their choice, or for one of the event’s nominated charities: Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Epilepsy Research UK, and the RNLI.

The event is sponsored by leading bike store Royles.  For more details and to enter visit www.XtraMileEvents.com
